A Study of Smith Story Wine Cellars Sauvignon Blanc

In 2012 Eric and I both agreed that Sauvignon Blanc was going to be a staple for Smith Story Wine Cellars. This was two years before we harvested our first grapes. Since then, our Loire inspired Sauvignon Blanc made from family vineyards in Sonoma County has captured hearts of thousands of wine lovers across the world.

Today we are both thrilled about the quality of the 2021 Sauvignon Blanc and anxious due to low tonnage yields this past harvest. Many have suggested we purchase bulk wine to blend and increase our case volume. Nope. That is a hard stop for us. The beauty of this organic, single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc is simply divine.   - Ali & Eric

About the Pigasus Vineyard, Sonoma Mountain:
At roughly 850 feet of elevation, the Pigasus Vineyard sits in both the Bennett Valley AVA (southeast end) and the Sonoma Mountain AVA (western end). This family-owned property produces fine wine grapes including Pinot Noir, Syrah, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. The 10-acre site is a beautiful rolling hillside location that enjoys warm days and cool nights. The grape vines are rooted in a well-drained mix of soils from sandy loam to clay loam, with moderate amounts of small volcanic rocks.

The vineyard was originally planted to Merlot on 100-R rootstock in 2000. Over the years, certain sections have been budded over to Pinot Noir, Syrah, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. The vineyard moved to organic farming practices in 2018.
