Our fifth vintage, hard and fantastic to believe! This vintage started off very much like last year, slow and steady. Difference being, this year has remained slow and steady where we had a late, crazy heat spike right at pick times. The fresh and bright fruit qualities of 2018 are spectacular – a well-defined season for us, for sure.
Our Sonoma Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon:
Definitely the most petulant of the bunch. Again, using three very different vineyards from three very different areas and still in different states of fermentation are smelling and tasting great. I really think this could potentially be our best yet.ckbery
Our beloved Lakota’s View Sémilon is going to be awesome! We might put together a really cool 5th anniversary together…
Anderson Valley Single Vineyard Pinot Noirs:
Helluva, Nash Mill and now Hacienda Secoya…
All three were spectacular! We literally bumped up the Nash Mill pick by 6 hours and finished 5 minutes before a heavy set of rain crashed upon us. Helluva & Secoya went smooth, which makes me nervous – I might be. Glass is half-full guy. In fact, talking with a few other winemakers, if we mess this one up, we should quit… No pressure!
Cabernet Franc(s) & Sauvignon:
We’re rocking three vineyards this year – high elevation Russian River, Pickberry & a Chalk Hill site. So far only the RRV has been brought in. Chalk Hill penciled for Wednesday, Pickberry for next Tuesday – Sauvignon as well… fingers crossed
Meanwhile, over in Germany…
Ohhhhhh wowwwwwww! Almost too easy. Little crazy, we’ve finished picking there but still waiting here. The combo of warm day temps and cool night temps will be the definitive factor here this year.
I'm typing this update from the tasting room today, a little brief but know it's been a very robust harvest for our growing family winery. Come see us either in the Anderson Valley or visit us at the winery in Windsor. It's been a little too quiet on the visitors front this month...so far.
Closing Harvest 2018 on a lonely note, Ali's off to Texas for a whirlwind tour with Sandwich riding shotgun. My two favorite people - yes he's more human than dog. Wishing and praying for a safe and fruitful 18 day road trip for my loves!!
More soon, check out our calendar and stay tuned to our Instagram page and hey, stop by and buy some wine why don't ya!
